Wacker Signs Agreement, Develops Fermentation Process

Wacker Biochem, Adrian, MI, has joined forces with Omega Protein, Houston, TX, to market and sell stabilized menhaden fish oil powder in the U.S. under the name OmegaDry. The company’s refined menhaden fish oil is certified GRAS by FDA and is also certified Kosher and organic.

In other developments, Wacker has succeeded in producing the amino acid L-cysteine by fermentation. The company developed this process independently at its central research facility in Munich, Germany. The process is based on a bacterial strain, which has been metabolically designed to synthesize L-cysteine from dextrose.
